The varsity side has a date with Buccaneers in their next assignment.

Former Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) champions Technical University of Kenya (TUK) are still chasing a first win in the ongoing men's league.

This weekend, the varsity side faced off with Thika Engineers Handball Club in what was their fifth match of the season nut their hopes for a first victory were crashed as the soldiers picked a 28-23 win.

TUK goalkeeper Walter Kanga was easily the best player for his side, denying the military side numerous scoring chances but his teammates did little to award his brilliant saves with an equally spectacular performance on offense.

Kanga was evidently frustrated on the court and could be seen urging his teammates to do better and he did not hide the same in a post-match interview, potch side.

"Complacency and laxity were our biggest undoing in this match. I believe this is a march we should have won if we had given our all. However, we came to the match with the belief that it would be an easy match.

What I cannot give an honest answer to is why it was hard to adjust when we realised that Engineers were a tough opponent. We had trained well for all eventualities but I cannot say what happened really. We should have done better," said Kanga.

TUK trailed 14-9 at half time and could not muster the comeback to snatch the match from Engineers who were chasing a fourth win in their seventh.

"Our bench-power is something we cannot run away from and it is affecting the way we are approaching and executing plays. We start well but players are bound to get tired as matches progress," Kanga opined of the team that had only ten players on the team sheet this weekend.

The former champions find themselves in unfamiliar territory in 15th place without a point and their hopes of fighting for the title or making the top six for a playoff slot dimming with each passing match.

Defending champions former champions Ulinzi HC lead the standings at 12 points, tied with second-place Strathmore while defending champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) are third on ten points from a five-match winning streak.

Black Mamba and General Service Unit complete the top five places with the latter the only side that has lost a match in the top five.
